Parts of Gardiner, DVP closed after fatal dump truck collision | CBC News

A man died Tuesday in a collision involving three dump trucks on Toronto’s Gardiner Expressway, police say.

The crash happened in the westbound lanes near the York Street on-ramp, a spokesperson for the Toronto Police Service told CBC News.

A man in his 50s who was driving one of the dump trucks was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

One of the trucks was caught fire after the collision, police said.

The Gardiner is closed to westbound traffic near the Spadina Avenue exit, according to police. The Jarvis off-ramps is also closed and westbound traffic on the Don Valley Parkway is being diverted at the Bayview/Bloor Street exit, police said.

The York Street on-ramp was closed briefly but has since reopened, police said.

The TTC put out alerts saying the 510 Spadina and 509 Harbour streetcar routes have been affected by the collision.

There is no service on those routes between Union Station and Queens Quay/Lower Spadina Avenue, the TTC said around 4 p.m. Shuttle buses are running between those two stops while service is disrupted.
